“Udaan” means fight, which signifies freedom and realization of new heights, this meaning when implied on children, signifies purpose of Udaan. It is an initiative of Janvikas, which spun off as an independent programme in response to both. the need to work on conflict transformation and peace building in areas affected by communal violence of 2002 in Gujarat and to build a culture of diversity and citizenship in future by addressing one of the basic nurturing grounds of conflict, that is education.
Primary education was a strategically chosen area of intervention to affect long-team change and contribute to equitable development of the society.
Intensive sustained efforts were planned and implemented towards special need of children internally displaced due to communal violence by way of setting up educational centres, capacity building of educations selected from the respective communities, curriculum building. pedagogy and institution building with community based organizations.
